Outline

Title Have the increase in athlete salaries and ticket prices affected professional sports negatively?
Introduction
II. Body
a. The increase in athlete salaries has affected professional sports negatively because:
a. There have been many more problems with the way athletes have been acting off the field because of the money they have.
b. Athletes do not have to worry about the consequences because they have enough money to post bail.
c. “Baseball's average salary has shot up 237%, more than 2 1/2 times the rate of ticket prices.”
d. Athletes should act like role-models, but with all of the fuss about salaries and the way they act off of the field it is getting harder for kids to look up to athletes these days.
2. The increase in athlete salaries and ticket prices do not affect professional sports negatively because:
a. The more a team is paid, the more they are expected to win. Such as the New York Yankees
b. Adds more of a competitive edge to the game because the better you do individually, the more you get paid, so this could get you extra bonuses and help motivate the athletes to try their hardest
c. Salary caps are a good way to try and make teams even so they are more exciting. The closer the two teams are in skill the more interesting the game will be.

The increase in ticket prices has affected professional sports negatively because:
a. Realistically, the GM’s do not have to raise ticket prices but because people still pay, they continue to go up.
b. This makes it harder for people with families to go because if you have a family of four, it will cost around $600 for tickets and then souvenirs for the kids, and food. The average cheese burger at a football game is around $6.00.
c. "The reason ticket prices have skyrocketed," Zimbalist says, is "a combination of new facilities and a higher income among the top 20% of people who are buying the highest-priced seats." John Siegfried, professor of economics at Vanderbilt, agrees. "It's not the players' salaries," he says. "These owners are highly successful businessmen, and the dramatic increase in pricing comes from some people's willingness to pay.

first day of research

I thought of a topic but have not yet started my research but I have ideas on some things I can talk about in my paper. There are recent things that have happened and are good examples of how salaries affect professional athletes.
